Flash flood warnings issued for parts of Mass., R.I. as storm brings heavy rain, possible thunderstorms 7%

New England flash flood warnings issued from heavy rain storms 
The high humidity lately will serve as the catalyst for rain and possible thunderstorms on Monday, making for a wet morning commute. 
Storms could produce heavy downpours with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour around the Providence area. 
Flooding of small creeks, streams, roadways, and highways is likely as storms pass through. 
Other flash flood warnings have been issued for Central and Western Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, and northern Connecticut, including Leominster, Lowell, and the Springfield-Hartford area. 
The Central Mass. warning is in effect until 10 a.m., and New Hampshire until 11:15 a.m. 
Heavy rainfall of 1 to 2 inches an hour is expected in those areas, according to the National Weather Service. 
The Springfield-Hartford region has been inundated with 2 to 3 inches. 
Also in the coverage area are Fitchburg, Chelmsford, Dracut, Westford, Gardner, Holden, Athol, Pepperell, Tyngsborough, Groton, Winchendon, Lunenburg, Townsend, Littleton, Lancaster, Templeton, Rutland and Sterling. 
In New Hampshire, Manchester, Nashua, Derry, Merrimack, Durham, Exeter, Salem, Northwood, and Bedford. 
Stepping outside Sunday, you probably felt that high humidity with dew points at or even a little above 70 degrees for many areas. 
These high dew points will spark some showers and even potential thunderstorms on Monday, making it the wettest day of the work week. 
We have a bit of upper-level energy combined with a frontal system to the west that will bring a high risk of showers in the early-morning hours of Monday and continue throughout the day. 
Storm timeline 
After a few heavier downpours roll through during the middle part of the morning, we’ll likely see a break in the action before a smaller risk of a couple of showers and storms with the actual cold front in the afternoon and evening. 
The biggest threat from the possible thunderstorms will be the heavier downpours and some flash flooding, mainly west of Boston and Providence with this next system. 
Severe weather is not likely, though it’s not a zero risk. 
Temperatures in the low 80s 
Temperatures will be in the lower 80s on Monday after starting around 70 degrees in the morning with all that high humidity. 
If you’re getting an early walk in for yourself or perhaps the dog, there might be some gaps in the showers early, but plan on bringing the umbrella. 
Look-ahead weather 
The rest of the work week features a blend of clouds and sunshine with temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s. 
Humidity will start to increase again at the end of the week, and there could be a couple of pop-up showers in the afternoon. 
I would call this very typical early August weather. 
Finally, in Boston the final 8 p.m.-hour sunset of the year occurs Tuesday night.
