Well, there was another twist in the New Jersey primary.

Representative Tom Keane Jr. is running unopposed for a third term in the seventh congressional district, but he's not been seen in public for nearly three months now.

In late April, the New Jersey Republican said he was dealing with a quote personal medical issue.

Now, he's put out a statement on X saying he will be back in a matter of weeks and will be completely transparent to the nature of my medical condition.

So, I want to bring in news executive director of White House and Politics Finn Gomez to break this all down.

So, Finn, what is the latest in this race?

>> As you said, Julio, we're getting new information today in that surprising statement, unexpected statement.

Kane Jr. says he expect he expects a transition from virtual work to in-person work, quote, within a matter of weeks, and that he'll be completely transparent about the nature of his medical condition at that time. not being very transparent right now.

And that statement answers very little.

Jules, his absence has become a political issue in one of the most competitive House districts in the country.

He's missed something like a 100 votes.

Hasn't been seen since March 5th, either at on the Hill or uh in his district.

And now today with four Democrats vying uh to face him uh in the primary to face him in the in the November election.

Uh this is just to remind you Jules, New Jersey 7th district remains a true battleground.

Uh if the p if the political environment shifts towards Democrats, uh he could face a very serious challenge this fall.

Again, one of the top targets for Democrats this fall.

>> All right. Well, he did say he would be transparent once he can.

Um let's turn to Maine now.

They aren't voting, but Democratic Senate candidate Grant Platner was meeting with Senate Democrats in Washington DC.

In fact, today as their support for the front runner is being tested amid a sexing scandal, our own Aaron Navaro asked voters in Maine what they thought about Platner.

Let's take a listen.

It's old news.

It's and and and especially the latest self, the text that's between a husband and a wife and a therapist and and they've they've done that and it's really, you know, it's old news.

So, it's uh not anything to kind of hang your hat on.

I would say

That scares me a little bit, but you know, I mean, we've got to get some new people in there, too.

You know, I'm a little bit.

put off, but not a whole lot.

I mean, I'm an ex psychotherapist for the last 40 years, so perfection is not what I'm looking for.

I mean, none of us are looking for.

there, right? So we always strive for perfection.

He tells a good story. He tells that he is looking for that too.

especially from that one woman who's a psychotherapist.

So do we think voters care as much about flaws and imperfections with candidates?

Um is this a national trend?

Also

>> look what we're seeing and what we're hearing from those main voters there's a contrast to what we're uh believe the sentiment is here in Washington DC.

Uh but it does this um you know Platner's visit here to Washington was was about reassurance.

Uh some Democratic leaders and donors have been uh uneasy uh Jules following several controversies surrounding that this campaign before this latest uh sex thing scandal.

Um and but in speaking with uh some of the top Democratic leaders today, including Senator uh Minority Leader Schumer from New York, uh and also Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont who endorsed uh uh Graham Platner.

Uh there is they have not deviated from their strong support uh towards the progressive populists in Maine.

And just if you if you if you recall, Jules also back in the primary when he faced Governor Janet Mills, uh he uh Janet Mills actually unleashed a barrage of negative ads on some of the controversial uh Reddit posts that Plat had placed had had put out earlier years ago.

Uh but it didn't really impact his career or excuse me, his campaign or his trajectory in that in that race.

Uh Republicans I talked to today are spoke to today are hopeful.

They feel that they can knock him down a few pegs at least, but they do think that Susan Collins, the incumbent Republican in Maine, is a dominant uh uh campaigner and has faced uh tough challenges before. Uh so they're still quite bullish in Susan Collins ability to hold that seat, but she is one of the most vulnerable Republicans on that Senate midterm landscape.
