Hey, good morning. So, the 140 passengers on board the antivirus
plagued in the Hondias are disembarking in groups by nationality via small boats
of up to 10 people. And this comes after the cruise ship arrived in the Canary Islands off the coast of Africa a few hours ago.
The World Health Organization is reassuring people on the island that there's no risk to the public.
And Spanish health officials say the passengers all remain asymptomatic.
while none of the current passengers have tested positive for the hand virus,
the outbreak did earlier kill three people on board while several others tested positive.
And now the remaining passengers and crew are leaving the ship after undergoing health screenings.
Once off the ship, they will be busted to the airport for flights to their home country.
The former CDC director said it this less than an hour ago.
Watch.
>> I mean, this is a virus we know pretty well. It's been around for a long time.
So it's not like COVID where it was a new virus and we didn't really understand how it interacted with humans.
Uh the real reality is this virus largely is transmitted uh to humans from rodents and it doesn't
really go very effectively rodent uh human to human. The one exception is the
Andes variant which is a variant that's on this ship.
It has been shown to go human to human but it's extremely inefficient.
17 Americans on the ship will now be flown to Nebraska where they'll be monitored by a CDC team.
Currently, six states are monitoring cruise passengers
who previously disembarked.
The outbreak of the rodent born illness sparked global concern over a possible wider spread
when the weeksl long Atlantic cruise spiral into a nightmare after it departed Argentina in March.
Authorities say an elderly Dutch couple carried the rare Andy strain of the virus after contracting it in Argentina last month while visiting a landfill overrun with trash known as a pilgrimage point for bird watchers.
