And returning to Operation Epic Fury where President Trump has issued a shoot and kill order writing on Truth Social quote, I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is to be no hesitation. Additionally, our minesweepers are clearing the straight right now. I'm hereby ordering that activity to continue but at a tripled up level.
And the Pentagon posting a new video of US troops seizing another ship carrying Iranian oil.
National security and military analyst and international relations expert Rebecca Grant joins me now.
Rebecca, thanks for coming on to talk about this with us this morning.
Um, you know, first I just want your reaction to this shoot and kill order.
Uh, lethal force is absolutely appropriate.
And notice that President
Trump really focused on any attempt by Iran's fast boats to put mines out in the straight.
Right now we have a couple clear shipping channels that our US Navy destroyers have ready to go.
So we don't want to see more activity.
Iran's IRGC Navy remnants are acting like pirates.
but I'm telling you they've only seen a glimpse of what the US Navy could do.
US is going to control that straight and the US needs to keep that control of the straight.
Do you think this is the pressure that Iran needs to face from the president to cave in and be like we can't do this anymore?
You know, it's it's a brilliant move
because with the blockade, President Trump can dial up or dial down the pressure.
The US Navy can continue this blockade as long as necessary and it's
amazing seeing the intercept of that Iran shadow fleet tanker in the Indian Ocean, okay? That's out in INDOPACOM, Admiral Paparo's command.
And so that tells us that Iran shadow fleet is a target anywhere they are.
That's a great message to China and it really does lock down the pressure on Iran.
They have no options at this point and they are going to have to negotiate one way or the other.
Do you foresee this coming to an end anytime soon?
I I we'll get to China in a second but, you know, for all the people out there who who didn't want to see this happen in the first place and now it's dragging on into the second and third month.
I mean, what do you what do you think? Do you think this is close to being over?
It's going to take some time. President Trump says give him the time and the space to make the best deal and the point here is we still want the nuclear fuel, nuclear dust accounted for and all the provisions to make sure Iran can never be a threat again and never be on that pathway to a nuclear weapon.
It's going to take a little more time but
this blockade pressure is another key pressure point on Iran.
Okay, and then I want to shift to this now. Uh, you want to shift to this now.
mentioned China so we're going to talk about that a little bit.
Um, it's the shifting impacts of the war on America's deterrent specifically in relation to China.
So the Wall Street Journal reported that quote, "The US has burned through so many munitions in Iran that America couldn't fully execute contingency plans to defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion if it occurred in the near term."
US has fired more than 1,000 long-range Tomahawk missiles since the war with Iran began on February 28th as well as 1,500 to 2,000 critical air defense missiles. Fully replacing those stockpiles could take up to 6 years. I mean, up to 6 years in replacement?
That's a long time.
Um, what are your thoughts on this?
Do you think that the US and the military would be capable of deterring something against the US or Taiwan?
Are they even capable of that right now with everything we're dumping into Iran in the Middle East?
Oh, yes. The deterrent is the right word
and to me Operation Epic Fury has been a huge message to China and greatly increased our deterrent.
On those specific munitions, the Pentagon has just about tripled the production rate for some of them.
Tomahawks are an older missile, we got a lot of them.
We have a lot of other types of missiles in the inventory.
And look, we've got two aircraft carriers in the Middle East right now, another one on the way, carrier in the Pacific.
I think our deterrent against China has been made much stronger by the air dominance and sea power that we see with our 50,000 US service members deployed in the Middle East.
East. I think Operation Epic Fury has really scared Xi Jinping, no question about it.
I mean, you know China's watching this like a hawk. Um, from every angle of this, what do you think?
I mean, do you think that with the route that we're going right now, you you talk about not just us using all of our um, assets and our military in the Middle East but you got to think about the oil and the gas. I mean, it's coming at us from every angle.
angle. What do you think China is thinking right now?
And China gets about 40% of that oil that comes through the straight.
You know, Iran was a pretty big oil supplier to them and what China sees is that President Trump has control of that key route and President Trump is
