The CDC is adding more states to a growing parasite outbreak linked to shredded lettuce.

I'm Rachel Scott from ABC News, and here's the big story.
Federal health officials expanding their investigation into a parasitic illness linked to shredded iceberg [music] lettuce.
On Friday, the CDC said that cases in that outbreak have now been reported in nine [music] states.
That's up from five states.
The suspected source is lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms.

>> Nearly 12,000 infections in dozens of other states, health officials continue to look out for any [music] other potential sources.
Elizabeth Schulze has been tracking this all week.
>> Rachel, cases of that severe stomach illness, Cyclosporiasis, are now at a record high.
More than 11,000 people have gotten sick across [music] the country.
Typically, in a given year, there are around 3,000 cases, and we are only halfway through the season [music] for this.
Now, the spike in infections comes after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told me this week that the federal government has the outbreak, quote, [music] under control.
He says officials have identified the source of the outbreak, and a recall is in place.
The FDA has linked at least 1,600 cases in five states to Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce from Mexico.
The companies with potentially affected lettuce include Walmart, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, food distributor Sysco, and Taylor Farms.
They say they've removed the lettuce from their supply.
Officials are still investigating any other potential sources of the parasite across the country.
It can take up to two weeks for symptoms to appear.
Thankfully, antibiotics can help.

The White House says the duties ranging from 10 to 12 and 1/2% [music] are meant to address what it calls labor violations.
The new tariffs also replace parts of the president's earlier trade policy.

Ousted Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro's trial is now set for June [music] 1st of next year.
The 63-year-old Maduro and his wife have been in custody here in the United States since their capture by US forces in January.
They have pleaded not guilty to narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges.
The man convicted of killing two Minnesota Democratic lawmakers has been sentenced to two life terms.
Vance Belter also received an extra 40 years after pleading guilty to stalking and shooting Mark and Melissa Hortman.

>> The plea kept him from facing the death penalty.
He also faces state charges related to the incident for which he has pleaded not guilty.
A Mississippi district attorney is defending the investigation into the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells.
He was found dead after a boating trip with his friends nearly 3 weeks ago off the Gulf Coast.
The DA says the case is being handled the same way as every death investigation.
>> I understand the public's urgency to know what happened to Nolan.
But we are not taking time for time's sake.
We are taking the time required to complete the work this investigation demands.
>> Sources tell ABC News Wells' body was found in the water face down consistent with drowning.
An autopsy the family commissioned said the cause and manner of the 18-year-old's death was undetermined.
>> The state's autopsy is still pending.

At number three, six rescued beluga whales are settling into their new homes in the US after an unprecedented rescue mission.
The whales were among 30 left in limbo at a shuttered amusement park in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Each whale weighing up to 4,000 lb, they were lifted by crane into a water-filled transport container, then trucked to the airport, and then flown south.
Four arrived at Chicago's [music] Shedd Aquarium, while two others splashed down at SeaWorld San Antonio.
