Now to tropical storm Bertha closing in on the Gulf Coast and Victor Aendo is in New Orleans where the floodprone city is preparing.
Good morning Victor.
>> Good morning Rebecca. The wind is definitely picking up here in New Orleans.
We are right along Lake Poncha Train and you can see what tropical storm Bertha is doing to the lake right now.
Some of these waves crashing right up and over onto the sidewalk gusting at about 30 m an hour right now.
And on top of Bertha, we're also under an extreme heat warning. More on that in a moment.
We met some residents preparing to secure their homes, loading up on sandbags.
They have been through their share of storms here in New Orleans.
They tell us they'd rather be prepared than caught off guard.
As Bertha approaches, some of those gusts could top 35 mph.
The heaviest of the rain, it's going to be south of us. Some areas could see 6 in and that could lead to flooding and we'll likely see some thunderstorms.
1 to 4 feet of storm surge is possible.
Now, it is also brutally hot here. The heat index could reach 115.
If power were to get knocked out, that could lead to a dangerous situation, Rachel.
>> Yeah, it certainly could. Okay, Victor.
Thank you.
