Championship weekend at Wimbledon is here, but it will not include the fairytale British match-up tennis fans have been hoping for.
Hometown hero Arthur Ferry's Cinderella run came to a halt with straight sets loss to this year's French Open champion Alexander Zverev.
The German player will take on defending champ and world number one Yannick Sinner in Sunday's final.
Sinner looked like the man to beat with a convincing straight sets win over Novak Djokovic earlier today.
Let's bring in Matthew Futterman.
He is the senior writer for tennis at The Athletic and author of the upcoming book The Cruelest Game.
Matthew, good to see you again.
So, Ferry gave the Wimbledon crowd a great local kid makes good story.
In the end though, Zverev was just too strong, huh?
>> Yes, he was really strong.
Thanks so much for having me.
Uh at at a certain point this match sort of became a man playing a boy.
Uh even though Arthur Ferry is 23 years old, Zverev, the veteran, really sort of made him look like a bit of a child uh during the last two sets.
>> Zverev now moves on to play Yannick Sinner in the final.
What are the chances he can make two major titles in a row?
>> Oh, that's going to be pretty hard.
Yannick Sinner is a defending champion, the world number one.
He's been pretty untouchable since the first round.
Today, he sort of made Novak Djokovic look like something of an old man, uh which takes some doing given that Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam titles and at 39 years old was still spanking much of the much of the competition.
>> Let's talk the ladies.
Their championship is tomorrow and all Czech final with ninth seeded Linda Nosková taking on 10th seeded Karolína Muchová.
What can we expect?
>> Well, this is a Czech battle royale.
You know, the Czech The Czech Republic is a sort of miracle of a country when it comes to tennis.
They have 11 million people.
They have nine of the women's top 50 and they have the two Wimbledon finalists, which is kind of astounding.
It all goes back to Martina Navratilova back in the 1970s before she defected to the US.
There's been a string of Czech champions since then.
They all play this beautiful game.
They're raised to play lots of other sports.
They play all over the court.
They serve, they volley, they come to the net.
They can do just about anything on a tennis court and I think it's going to be a real tennis athlete athletes festival there.
>> Matthew Futterman, thanks so much.
>> Thanks so much for having me.
