All right, in just a couple of hours President Trump's pick for Attorney General Todd Blanche is headed to Capitol Hill for his nomination hearing.
>> So, the acting AG is expected to face hard questioning from the Senate Judiciary Committee.
>> Senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy joins us now with those details.
Hey Peter.
>> Good morning and this is going to be a big day because if there is one thing that President Trump envies about former President Barack Obama, it is that Barack Obama in his opinion had an Attorney General Eric Holder who was a lot more loyal to Obama than any Trump AGs have been so far to Trump.
>> What do you want to hear from Blanche tomorrow um during his confirmation?
>> Oh gosh. Um well, his priorities for the department so we can't go back to the days of parents at school board meetings having the Justice Department anti-terrorism unit activated against them.
>> Controversial cases where he was representing the president uh personally as well as uh that office and uh real questions as to whether or not he went too far.
>> And the biggest one there of course for Democrats would be the handling of the Epstein files.
The president says Todd Blanche is doing a phenomenal job as acting Attorney General of the United States. Under Todd's incredible leadership at DOJ, murder is down at the lowest level since 1900 and we just saw the biggest one-year drop in recorded history.
Violent crime arrests are up 100%. Robberies, carjackings, and assaults are all crashing. More than 500 million deadly doses of drugs have already been seized saving countless innocent lives.
Part of President Trump's issue today with getting Blanche through might be
Republicans including Thom Tillis and John Cornyn who are on their way out anyways, so they might not have much to lose if they don't back Blanche.
According to Politico today, both of those men could vote Blanche down if he cannot assure them that the so-called weaponization fund to pay out people with taxpayer money who think they have been wronged by the federal government is dead. Back to you.
>> All right, thanks so much, Peter.
>> Thank you, Peter.
>> So, it was a big question and Mark for me, Ainsley, when it came to Todd Blanche initially because I didn't know much about him, but he I found him to be an excellent trial lawyer. And if you value the right and your freedoms and you're just this average American, this is the guy that you want as Attorney General because he's going to respect the rights of the people.
We saw a Department of Justice that targeted Americans, parents, people the praying grandmas out there and violated their rights and he's kind of returned Department of Justice back to his origin. I appreciate that.
>> Yeah, here's Jonathan Turley on whether it's going to be difficult to confirm him.
>> I knew the senator well. We worked together for almost 30 years.
And what we lost is someone who was able to pierce through a lot of the noise and nonsense on the hill. We really need him, not just his vote, but his clarity of thought.
We have to see how many of these Republican senators are going to carry through. There's been suggestions that some of them might vote against Todd. I have to emphasize something. Todd Blanche is one of the most skillful lawyers in the United States. He has an outstanding career. So, you can't oppose him on the merits. I mean, this this guy is really quite remarkable in his skills.
So, this is this is an alarming situation for the White House as well.
It's hard to deal with the strategic aspects because we're all mourning the loss of Lindsey.
But, we're going to have to focus on that and get him through this process cuz he deserves to be the Attorney General of the United States.
>> Yeah, you know, you I guess it's a it's a bad season in the Senate for the president to get any confirmation through.
You've got some senators that have lost in the primary that may have a you know, a rub.
I don't know that either of them have a rub here or even sit on the Judiciary Committee.
You have other senators that you know, they've already won the primary. They know they're going to win their general so they can take a risk now maybe that they they couldn't take before the primary season.
ultimately not just losing Lindsey Graham as a vote but losing Lindsey Graham as someone of influence and someone that both sides of the aisle has said in the last couple of days could get you there. Could make you feel okay about it.
Could bring some levity to a heated situation. I mean I understand what Jonathan Turley's saying. I just I don't understand what the big rebuttal would be to Todd Blanche from any senator especially on the right and we're in a day and age now where you need 51 votes.
>> Yeah, a lot of some people were not in favor of that 1.8 billion fund payout to the victims of lawfare including the J6 and some people have questions about the Epstein files. They'll probably ask him about that in the DOJ.
>> Jay's actions against these journalists, the FBI raids and the subpoenas on some of the journalists. Um also
