Lanie Quinn. Lanie, what's this thing going to do? 
>> Okay, what it's going to do is it looks like it wants to travel parallel to the the northern portion of the Gulf Coast, right? 
What happens with that, Lindsay, a lot of the storm is going to be interacting with the shoreline, like the outer edge of the storm, the northern fringe of that storm. And when that happens, you get friction and the storm is not allowed to rapidly intensify cuz that friction with the land sort of holds it back. 
So, here's our current situation, all right? Yep, tropical storm, you right? Yep, tropical storm, you heard Lindsay talking about that, you heard Lana talking about that. 
We now have a tropical storm, our second tropical storm of the season, all right? 
And to a lot of people, even myself included, it seems like wow, we're really sort of getting up to act to getting up to speed hurricane tropical storm wise slowly, right? 
It seems like we're kind of behind schedule and yet we're really not. 
It's just that our most recent hurricane seasons have been so much more active. 
July 16th is typically when we normally see our second named storm and here we are, you know, right in that vicinity, right? 
So, it's kind of on par with an average season. All right, what's happening with the system? 
I talked about it traveling, it's offshore right now about 100 miles offshore from Mobile, Alabama. 
And it basically stays offshore. 
Now, if it does travel on that track, all right? The worst case scenario is, and I'm talking moving due west the entire time, and it sits and spins like this, right? So, it's pushing water the entire time. 
And the catch-all in a situation like this, look, boom, it's this right angle right here, all right? Right around like Lake Pontchartrain and and New Orleans. 
So, if that holds true, worst case scenario, I'm talking now the worst case scenario is two to four feet of storm surge. 
Now, look, they have been through much bigger storm. 
They've seen nine, 10 feet of storm surge. Two to four feet, they should be able to handle, but you never turn your back on any sort of tropical system, a tropical storm or a hurricane. 
I know most people are hearing, hey, it's not a hurricane, it's a tropical storm, so we're good. 
Not necessarily, right? It's moving slowly right now at only 6 mph. 
It had been moving at 3 mph. 
So, that means the effects last longer, but I do not see this ever becoming a hurricane or a major storm for this area, but it can still cause some problems. 
And you also heard Lonnie bring up something really important. 
We never associate rip currents with a hurricane. 
And yet, of course, all that water getting pushed on shore has got to travel out in in some direction, right? 
It travels out in a single path, and that's your rip current. 
look, before the storm gets here, it can still be churning up the water. So, if we do have recreational swimmers out there, make sure you're swimming in a guarded beach.
