And sir, I believe you have an announcement to make about the three men who were in that van at the time of the fatal shooting who we understand are still in ICE custody.
>> Yeah, they are up in the Conroe Detention Facility in ICE custody.
Yesterday, we certified their U visa requests determining that they are all three material witnesses to this case.
That is one of the first process or steps in the process to to force the federal government to keep them here for the pendency of this of this case.
It's it's a step. It's not something that that we can really force, but us certifying them, our office certifying them as a as material witnesses
is a big key component to getting them U visa protection, but it's not because it's this case. We we do this hundreds of times every year for any number of serious violent crimes like this one.
>> And that could potentially protect them from deportation.
>> That's exactly right.
>> Did you do that because you were concerned that ICE would move to deport them before the investigation actually played out?
>> We're aware that they all have future court dates in immigration court, so time was absolutely of the essence.
I
To think that any agency would would try to speed up the deportation of of three material witnesses is
it's really crazy in in our normal way of being prosecutors, but that's what's happening.
>> How critical are their accounts, the witnesses' accounts,
to the investigation?
>> They're the three eyewitnesses to this shooting.
There's not there are not many things that are more important in this investigation than their recollections.
