Welcome back.
Flames ripping through a vacant building in Manhattan.
Firefighters battled a massive fire earlier this morning in Chelsea as flames spread across multiple floors of a six-story apartment building.
Officials say the structure was empty, but two firefighters were injured.
Here's more.
The fire broke out just after 6:00 a.m. on 7th Avenue between West 22nd and 23rd Street.
The New York Fire Department crew arrived to find heavy fire on the first, fifth, and sixth floor with thick smoke pouring out from the building.
Nearly 200 firefighters and emergency medical service personnel responded working to bring the flames under control.
Because of structural concerns, crew could not enter the building.
They instead searched from tower ladders outside and determined no one was inside.
Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and nearby residents were briefly evacuated as a precaution.
One neighbor says she woke up to fire trucks and saw smoke before being told to leave.
A local city council member says the building has a long history, but hopes it can still be saved.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
