Congressional Republicans are working on a reconciliation bill to fund ICE and Customs and Border Patrol, and President Trump is calling on lawmakers to unify around funding.
Joining us now to discuss is South Carolina Republican Congressman Ralph Norman.
Congressman Norman, thanks so much for joining us tonight.
Now, let's start with this reconciliation bill to fund ICE and Border Patrol.
First off, where are we in the process right now?
What is the plan from the leadership?
Well, from what what we're hearing, Jack, they're working through it.
You know, this is costing the American people 1.6 billion every 2 weeks by not funding ICE.
The president has funded it ICE and Border Patrol to date.
So, we've got some urgency to it.
May 15th is the time we have need that Senate needs to send over their their instructions on what's going to be included, mainly and it's just 70 billion for for ICE and Border Patrol.
And um hopefully we'll get that passed, and I would rather have something else other things be included, like the Save America Act.
Uh but that's not possible right now.
So, I think the reconciliation will be skinny in in what's included, and it'll be just funding for ICE and Border Patrol.
Yeah, the the Save America Act is certainly a significant proposal, uh but uh which one is more urgent?
I'm I'm sure uh President Trump has that in mind, and he's also urging Republicans to not get divided over any amendments.
Do you think that Republicans will stay unified to pass this?
I think so.
I think most You know, we're going on to 66 days now that the Democrats have have closed such a vital part of what we're doing to keep this country secure, what President Trump's doing.
And it's uh outlandish, but however, I think we see the urgency of it, and I think we'll come up with a solution, and uh we'll fund it, and you know, uh would we rather have not had this shutdown with uh for 66 days?
Yes.
But that's the Democrats what they're doing, and but we'll cure it.
We'll get the 51 votes needed, and we'll get it passed, the Senate hopefully.
Certainly been [clears throat] 66 days too long.
Uh let's pivot topics here now to Iran.
Uh here's White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt on how things stand today.
He's maintaining and uh generously offering a bit of flexibility to a regime who has been completely tarnished because of Operation Epic Fury.
Uh is very There's obviously a lot of internal division.
This is a battle between the pragmatists and the hardliners in Iran right now, and the president wants a unified response.
She says there's no timetable for the talks.
Congressman, your response.
Well, here's here's the good news.
The president has pretty much decimated Iran, all but just a fragment of uh the ludicrous leaders that are in charge.
Uh hopefully it doesn't come to just totally taking out everything the country needs to exist, including the power plants, uh the water, the utilities, and decimating the whole country so that basically no one lives.
He doesn't want to see that happen.
But Iran cannot keep uh imploding the ships that are there.
I hear three ships were attacked.
And uh it it just can't continue to happen by lunatic uh group of leaders who care nothing about their people.
All they want to do is maintain power, and I think the president's going to handle it.
Uh I I hope they understand this president means what he says, and he'll follow through with with what he says.
This additional time, I think is right, but I think the time is limited, and if they don't come to the table, they'll face the consequences.
And President Trump is certainly getting some support here [clears throat] in uh the US with a lot of Iranian Americans coming out in support of him.
But CENTCOM now reports that US forces have stopped 29 vessels from entering or exiting Iranian ports.
Congressman, talk to us a bit about the strategy behind this blockade, keeping the pressure on Iran.
Well, with with what their actions are, you would think they would have come to the table now and and had some type of an agreement that we could rely on.
They haven't.
And it just shows what kind of uh lunatics that are running the country, the few that are there.
Uh and the ones that are the main leaders have been taken out uh have been a an example of what this America will do if they don't come to the tables.
Now, you know, they can keep We're going to starve them from doing anything further that's just in not in the best interests of America, but uh it at the end of the day, if they don't come to the table, he'll take the whole country out and everything that's in it, and uh America it has no other choice but to do that, and I think they'll the president will follow up follow through with with what he's telling them.
But the ceasefire is good for now, and the president is uh is playing it right, and the 29 vessels are a lifeline to the a country that's is struggling at best.
So, we'll see what they they choose to do.
