Three brothers who own Surefire Market in Camp North End have been charged with arson nearly two years after a fire destroyed their original location, Surefire Neighborhood Market, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, local news organizations reported.
Lubika Magloire Lutuangu, Manzanza Edric Lutuangu and Mayimona Joel Lutuangu turned themselves in at the Rock Hill Law Center on Monday, July 20, after learning warrants had been issued for their arrest, according to WCNC.
They were booked into the Rock Hill Jail the same day.
The fire broke out at the market at 702 Ogden Road just after midnight on July 14, 2024.
The Rock Hill Police Department and the Rock Hill Fire Department opened an investigation after the cause was initially undetermined, according to WCNC.
Forensic examinations ultimately ruled out an electrical cause.
Investigators located a melted trash can at the scene, which evidence indicated was the fire's point of origin.
According to reports from WCNC and WSOCTV, footage showed the trash can had been emptied earlier, which police said should have left it without flammable material.
Through digital recovery processing, investigators said they obtained surveillance footage placing all three brothers at the scene as the fire started, WSOCTV reported.
That evidence formed the basis for the arson warrants.
According to the Surefire website, the brothers' parents built their first store, Jeman Express, on Charlotte's West Side before expanding to Rock Hill with a second store, Mama Yala.
In 2022, the three brothers transformed Mama Yala into Surefire, describing it as "a modern cornerstone for quality meals and neighborhood gathering."
When the 2024 fire destroyed that location, the brothers turned to a food truck to stay connected to their customers.
"When a fire took our physical space in 2024, it didn't take our spirit," the website reads.
"The community of Sunset Park and beyond carried us through, and we kept the fire burning the only way we knew how: on the move."
The food truck eventually led to a new chapter in 2025, when Camp North End announced Surefire as its newest addition to the Keswick District.
QCity Metro reached out to the Rock Hill Police and Fire Departments for direct comment, but did not receive a response prior to publication.
