Sources close to the Republican National Committee and the Republican Governors Association tell The Daily Wire that Vance, the freshman senator from Ohio, is not a consensus candidate for president in 2028 and that the party’s establishment wing is already working to block his potential candidacy.
“He’s not a serious candidate for president,” said one RNC source.
“He’s a creature of the Trump era, and the party is trying to move beyond that.”
The opposition to Vance is being led by a coalition of traditional Republicans and Never Trumpers who are concerned about his policy positions and his perceived lack of electability.
“Vance is too extreme for the general election,” said one GOP strategist.
“He’s too far to the right on issues like abortion and immigration, and he’s too closely aligned with Trump.
