Federal agents swarmed to MacArthur Park on Wednesday as part of what officials are calling Operation Free MacArthur Park, a major crackdown targeting drug trafficking in the area.
Authorities say the operation led to multiple arrests and the seizure of millions of dollars worth of narcotics.
I kind of had an idea as soon as I saw the vehicles what was going on.
I think it was a good thing.
That's what one resident said after the DEA, LAPD and several other agencies raided businesses and homes tied to what officials describe as an open-air drug market in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles.
Officials say the investigation targeted gang and cartel linked trafficking networks, including members tied to MS-13 and the 18th Street Gang.
Authorities say agents also recovered methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, firearms and cash during raids across South Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley and Calabasas.
Officials say they seized over 40 pounds of fentanyl worth up to 10 million dollars during the operation.

I'm not shocked at that number because you just walk these streets and you see that the disease of addiction is out there everywhere on every corner.
And um something needs to be done.
Federal authorities say the amount of fentanyl seized has the potential to kill more than 9 million people.
Officials say several suspects are now facing federal drug trafficking and conspiracy charges, which could carry sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison.
In an area long known for drug activity and homelessness, residents say they hope the crackdown will improve safety around the park.
To keep our streets safer and cleaner and to save lives cuz a lot of bad things happen around here.
Residents say they're hoping this crackdown finally brings lasting change to the neighborhood.
