growing Ebola outbreak and officials
defending the decision to bar an Air
France passenger from entering the
United States, forcing the jet to divert
to Canada. And tonight, we're learning
another American doctor who may have
been exposed to Ebola has been flown to
quarantine in Prague. Steve Osansami
reporting from the CDC tonight. What
should have been a smooth trip from
Paris to Detroit turned into panic
halfway through the flight on Air
France. The captain came on the
announcement system and said that we
were being diverted to Montreal airport.
>> Authorities were telling the pilots that
they couldn't land in America because
one of their passengers was from the
Democratic Republic of Congo, the new
Ebola hot zone.
>> The flight attendants all had masks on
which no one had had on prior to that
announcement. So, it was really
concerning like what is going on here?
>> The plane continued on to Detroit
Wednesday evening without that
passenger, but other people on the
flight say they're not sure who it was
and worry the rest of them may have been
exposed. Canadian health authorities
tonight say that the passenger from the
Congo was showing no symptoms and was
unlikely to spread the virus. This
strain of Ebola, a disease that can
cause a person to bleed to death, has no
vaccine or effective treatment and has
already killed nearly 150 people in
Africa. A missionary doctor from
Virginia, seen here in a plastic bubble
on his way to Germany, is still fighting
the disease this evening. In a
statement, he says, "Before I was
evacuated, I was feeling really
concerned I wasn't going to make it, and
now I'm cautiously optimistic. And now
another American missionary doctor who
may have been exposed has been flown to
quarantine in the Czech Republic. The US
is now denying entry to anyone without a
US passport who has recently traveled
through these affected regions. And any
American who is coming home from these
same places is now required to fly into
Washington Dallas airport. Well, they
will be screened by the CDC. Whit.
>> All right, Steve. Thank you for that.
