31-year-old Cole Allen facing multiple federal charges, including the attempted assassination of President Trump,
>> with the defendant making clear what his intent was, and that intent was to bring down as many of the highranking cabinet officials as he could.
>> Allan appearing for the first time before a judge as prosecutors laid out a new detailed timeline, accusing him of plotting a mass shooting at the White House correspondent dinner last Saturday.
In early April, one month after Trump announced he would attend the gayla, authorities claim Allen made a reservation at the Washington Hilton Hotel for three nights.
The FBI says Allen then traveled across country by train.
Armed with a 12 gauge pumpaction shotgun, a 38 caliber pistol, and three knives.
After arriving in DC on Friday, the night before the gayla, Allen checked into the hotel where the event would be held, allegedly smuggling the guns and knives into the building undetected.
>> He is very much aware that the president and the first lady entered the ballroom at 8:00 p.m.
And it was at 8:40 that he made a decision to rush the ballroom.
The acting attorney general says agents fired five shots at Allen as he stormed a security checkpoint.
>> We do believe that as as the complaint lays out that the suspect that the defendant fired it um out of his shotgun and and we know that that happened.
>> Allan they say was quickly subdued one floor above the ballroom.
According to DOJ, Allan allegedly sent an email message to his family scheduled to be delivered at the time of the shooting explaining his actions.
The government claims the suspect appears to have shared social media posts that were critical of Trump and his administration, including calling for Trump's removal.
Officials say he also appears to have shared posts denouncing Trump's policies, including dealing with the war with Iran and increased immigration enforcement.
Allen will be back in court on Thursday for a detention hearing where DOJ plans to make the case that he's extremely dangerous and must be held in jail pending trial.
