A deadly shooting took place at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in New Jersey on Saturday night, with one fatality and six others injured.
According to the Union County Prosecutor's Office, police responded to the mass shooting at around 9 p.m. local time at a Chick-Fil-A restaurant, where they located seven victims, six of whom were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A group of masked gunmen reportedly stormed the restaurant in Union Township, about 17 miles west of New York City, forced their way behind the counter and fired multiple shots, with those injured including multiple employees, according to the New York Post.
In dashcam footage published by The Post, a masked man holding a gun can be seen running away, as well as others, some of whom appeared to be fleeing for safety.
According to CBS News, a family member of a worker said there was an altercation of some sort and employees were injured in the violence.
In audio obtained by CBS News New York, a 911 dispatcher relayed information.
“I got an unconscious witness.
I've got one shot in the face…and I have at least two in the leg.”
A father of one of the workers told ABC 7 Eyewitness News that his son called him in a panic, saying that multiple people wearing masks entered the restaurant.
He also said that several of his co-workers were injured in the shooting.
The father described the scene at the restaurant as a “warzone.”
A Lyft driver speaking with the outlet said he heard more than seven shots as he was finishing up a nearby trip.
The prosecutor's office described the investigation as ongoing and active, noting that no arrests have been made as of yet.
It also said that preliminary investigation indicates that it appears the shooting was not a random act of violence “and that there is no immediate ongoing threat to the general public.”
New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill (D) released statements on X about the shooting.
“We now know that last night's shooting in Union Township tragically claimed one life and left six others injured,” she said.
“Our hearts go out to the victim's loved ones, and we are hoping for the full recovery of those who were injured,” she added.
New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport also posted to X about the shooting.
“I am horrified by the shooting last night in Union Township.
Local law enforcement, led by the Union County Prosecutor's Office, is investigating the shooting,” she said.
“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
Gun violence has no place in our state, period.”
“Grateful to law enforcement as they continue the investigation into this senseless act of violence,” she later posted.
