The Department of Justice announced federal charges against Mohamed Sagha, a 22-year-old resident of New Jersey, for allegedly plotting domestic terror attacks against a synagogue and a National Guard station in support of ISIS.
In a statement released by the DOJ on Monday, prosecutors say that Sagha, of Wayne, New Jersey, had plotted an attack against the U.S. in “one or more” pro-ISIS online group chats along with a strike of his own.
Sagha now faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
“Those who seek to advance the objectives of foreign terrorist organizations should expect a swift and coordinated response from federal law enforcement,” stated Robert Frazer, U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey.

Sagha allegedly discussed using a virtual private network (VPN) with a confidential human source (CHS) he believed to be an ISIS member online.
He then purchased the VPN, provided it to the source, and explained how to use it, according to court documents and allegations.
The 22-year-old then met with the CHS online around October 2025.
He told the source he wanted to help a member of an ISIS-supporting group chat carry out an attack on a place of worship.
Sagha participated in the group chat between December 2025 and June 2026 — in which ISIS supporters discussed potential terror attacks in the U.S. including against places of worship.
Additionally, in March 2026, Sagha reportedly attempted to travel to ISIS territory in Syria to support the terrorist organization.
