Pet owners can now get medicines for their furry friends at CVS when they pick up their own prescriptions. 
Rhode Island-based CVS Health announced Tuesday approximately 9,000 CVS Pharmacy locations across the U.S., including those in Texas, will fill common prescription medications for dogs and cats, according to a news release from the company.

Items available include antibiotics, allergy, flea and tick control, insulin and pain relievers. 
The move is meant to expand access to essential pet health care. 
“With the addition of pet medication dispensing, CVS Pharmacy can now serve every member of the family," said Sid Tenneti, senior vice president and interim president of pharmacy and consumer wellness with CVS Health. 
"Combined with our convenient locations, extended hours and broad range of health and wellness products, we offer a true one-stop destination for care.” 
Pet meds are also available for many of the services their humans enjoy including automatic refills and prescription syncing. 
Some pet meds may available for delivery as well. 
To start, pet owners need to present a written prescription to CVS for their pet's medication or have their veterinarian contact the selected CVS Pharmacy. 
Pet owners can create a profile for their pet within their own CVS health app.

CVS Pharmacy has its own Pet Central brand in stores that includes a variety of products for dogs and cats, including ergonomic grooming tools, pet care and wellness accessories, toys, cat litter and puppy training pads. 
More items are coming to this line up in September. 
"Greater flexibility in where pet prescriptions are filled helps reduce stress and delays, ensuring pets receive the medications they need conveniently while supporting their health and well-being," according to the news release.
