Karen Ambrose, a healthcare executive with more than a decade of experience in operations and strategic planning, has been named chief operating officer at Sunrise Children’s Hospital in Las Vegas.
Ambrose comes to the hospital from HCA Healthcare’s TriStar Centennial Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., where she served as vice president of operations.
During her tenure there, she led the expansion of the hospital’s OB emergency room from 7 to 10 beds and initiated a $55 million hospital transformation project.
“Karen’s experience leading healthcare operations, advancing strategic growth and building strong physician and team engagement makes her an outstanding addition to our leadership team,” Todd Sklamberg, chief executive officer of Sunrise Hospital and Sunrise Children’s Hospital, said in a statement.
“Her collaborative leadership and operational expertise will help strengthen our organization as we continue to grow and serve the evolving needs of children and families throughout the region.”
Ambrose’s HCA Healthcare background also includes service as execution director for HCA Corporate’s Clinical Services Group and as senior project manager for strategy and innovation at Parallon, HCA Healthcare’s administrative support platform.
Before joining HCA Healthcare, she held progressive leadership roles at Ascension Saint Thomas in Nashville.

Ambrose holds a Master of Health Administration and a Bachelor of Allied Health, both from Ohio State University.
She has served as executive chair for March for Babies, a March of Dimes fundraising event, and as a board member for Ronald McDonald House Nashville.
Sunrise Children’s Hospital, founded in 1989, is Nevada’s first children’s hospital and the largest and most comprehensive children’s hospital in the state.
The hospital shares a campus with Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, which HCA Healthcare owns and operates.
