AAA: Nevada gas prices continue to climb amid Middle East tensions 51%

Gas prices in Nevada kept climbing this week, with the statewide average for a gallon of regular gasoline rising 14 cents to $4.69, according to AAA’s weekly fuel report.
Nationwide, the average price for regular gasoline rose 15 cents from last week to $4.09 per gallon.
Prices are rising following renewed fighting between the United States and Iran, which has disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that carries roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil trade in peacetime.
U.S. forces have carried out strikes on Iran for several consecutive nights in response to attacks on oil tankers transiting the strait, keeping crude markets on edge.
“Volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region have pushed oil prices into the $90-per-barrel range and could continue driving up costs during the second half of the summer,” Aldo Vazquez, a spokesperson for spokesperson for AAA, said in a statement.
In the Las Vegas area, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $4.67.
In Reno, drivers paid an average of $5.09 per gallon.
Nevada ranked among the most expensive states in the country for gasoline, coming in fifth behind California ($5.57), Hawaii ($5.42), Washington ($5.07) and Alaska ($4.72).
Oregon ($4.60), Arizona ($4.30), Michigan ($4.26), Montana ($4.26) and Illinois ($4.25) rounded out the top 10.
The least expensive gasoline markets in the country were Indiana ($3.53), Mississippi ($3.64), Louisiana ($3.67), Tennessee ($3.70), Texas ($3.70), Kentucky ($3.72), Kansas ($3.74), Alabama ($3.75), Oklahoma ($3.76) and Arkansas ($3.79).
Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 210.5 million barrels to 211.3 million barrels, while gasoline production averaged 9.7 million barrels per day.
