A routine traffic stop on Saturday turned into a heroic moment when a Texas cop pulled a man out of his car, right before it burst into flames.
“Get out, get out, get out!
Get out of the car!”
the officer could be heard yelling on body camera footage obtained by Fox News.
“Come out through the window!
Hey!
Come out through the window, sir.
Come out through the window, now.
Gimme your hand!”
Fox News reported the officer was Corporal Joshua Swisher from the Southlake Police Department.
Swisher was seen on his dash cam rushing up to the burning Nissan and urging the male driver to get out ASAP.
Flames and smoke from the bottom of the vehicle started engulfing the car as Swisher approached the window.
The cop tossed a black glove on his right hand and smashed the window to give the driver more space to exit; he then reached in and helped the man get out of the vehicle.
The unidentified driver was the only person inside.
Fox 4 in Dallas reported Swisher was pulling over a Mercedes for speeding when the smoking Nissan pulled ahead and parked.
Swisher quickly pivoted to helping the Nissan driver, who the officer said was suffering from shock because his door would not open.
“I could not even see inside the vehicle.
The only thing I saw was hands, and it was the driver trying to get his door open from the inside,” Swisher told Fox 4.
“He grabbed onto me.
We got him out of the car, shortly before the interior went up in flames.”
Fox 4 reported Swisher had some burnt hairs on his arm, but was able to finish the rest of his shift.
As for the speeding Benz, Shapiro he took it easy because the driver had just visited a family member at the hospital.
“It was going to be a ticket, but luckily for them, it was a warning because I had a lot of other stuff going on.
They got off with a warning,” he said.
