A new Black-owned dining concept is preparing to debut in Charlotte's Steele Creek corridor, aiming to carve out space in the city's competitive restaurant market with a menu rooted in Southern cooking and shaped by global influences.
EVO Kitchen & Co. is slated to open Aug. 1, according to their website, at 5220 New Fashion Way, Suite 400, near Charlotte Premium Outlets.
The opening was announced in a press release on Wednesday, July 15.
The restaurant is co-founded by Edmond “Roc Well” McMiller and Myra Wilson.
Together, the founders are positioning EVO as a neighborhood destination geared toward guests seeking something between casual bar food and formal fine dining.
"EVO is about evolution — personally, professionally and creatively," McMiller said in the release.
"This restaurant represents resilience, but it also represents joy.
We wanted to create a place where Charlotte can come for great food, great drinks and great energy, but still feel comfortable, seen and taken care of."
The name EVO is meant to capture that theme of evolution, according to the press release.
Heading the kitchen is Chef Kendrick Hollis, who brings more than 15 years of culinary experience, including a decade of military service and work as a private chef.
His cooking is described as herb-forward and wellness-conscious, emphasizing fresh ingredients and elevated presentation.
The menu leans into comfort food with an upscale twist.
Highlights announced in the press release include:
Bayou Braised Oxtail Pasta
Lamb Chop Trio with Creamy Country Grits
Peach Bourbon Glazed Wings
Rainbow Beet Salad with Honey Basil Vinaigrette
Vegetarian options are also planned.
A craft cocktail program is designed to complement lunch, dinner and late-night service.
EVO is planned to operate Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Plans also call for live music, DJ sets, outdoor seating and private event space.
According to the press release, details on the grand opening, reservations and launch events will be announced at a later date.
