Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has dropped some spectacularly cringe statements throughout her career.
She hailed Cuban leader Fidel Castro by the name that his minions honored him with, "Comandante en Jefe," when he died in 2016, in effect lionizing a brutal communist dictator and enemy of the United States.
“All of this can be found at URL,” she said at a wildfire press conference in 2025 as a large portion of her city was burning to the ground — neglecting to mention the actual website.
It’s unknown how many people went out looking for assistance from “URL.”
In the one and only 2026 mayoral debate, when asked whether noncitizens should vote in local elections, Bass replied: “It depends.
It’s not a yes or no.”
Oh, but it is, Karen, and the one-word answer is “no.”
She may have outdone herself with this latest wild statement, though.
Sure, we have a bit of a homeless problem, she admitted at a press conference Wednesday, and sure, some of them like to dabble in a little drug action here or there, but they have very good reasons to do so: they need to protect themselves.
You’d do it, too, right?

Notice that the person who posted this tweet seems to have Nostradamus-like capabilities.
“Fix the streets,” he implored.
He posted that before a massive water main burst under the streets of West Hollywood in the wee hours of Thursday morning, causing a raging river to flow down Sunset Boulevard and engulf cars, buses, businesses, and residences.
While technically West Hollywood is its own city carved out right in the middle of Los Angeles and is therefore not under her jurisdiction, it’s part of LA County, its infrastructure is deeply tied into the larger city's, and the disaster certainly seems emblematic of the failures of the city and the state as a whole.
She even doubled down on her wacko take when confronted with questions:
After reporters asked her to clarify the remark, Bass replied: “What I said is, is that I know that people have used meth to stay awake at night, so they don’t fall asleep because they’re worried about being assaulted.”
The comments ignited immediate backlash online, with critics accusing Bass of trying to justify meth use instead of addressing the city’s growing addiction and public safety problems.

A couple of rebuttals:
1) “Sleep out on the street a couple weeks.”
How about no?
2) “….tell me you’re not using something to stay sane… or use meth so you don’t go to sleep to protect yourself!”
Ok, then, I’ll tell you — I’m not now nor will I ever take a notoriously deadly drug to “stay safe.”
I’m also not going to stab myself to protect myself from street crime.
Former mayoral candidate and fire victim Spencer Pratt, whose second-place finish magically evaporated days after the June primary as mail-in ballots were counted, wasn’t having a minute of it.
Perhaps Bass should get some solid advice from a three-year-old, he wrote:
Homelessness doesn’t cause drug addiction.
Drug addiction causes homelessness.
3 year olds understand this.
Why doesn’t Karen Bass?
Unfortunately, the City of Los Angeles and its residents are hosed no matter who wins the general election in November, because Bass’ opponent, wild-eyed Democratic Socialist extremist Nithya Raman — She Who Would Like to Take Away Your BBQ — would arguably be an even worse executive.
Our only consolation: at least we won’t have Zohran Mamdani.
