MaryAnne Muglia, a pianist and vocalist from Arizona, blends indie, jazz and pop sounds.
She’s heading out on tour on the West Coast for the first time to promote the release of her debut album, “Try Hard,” out on Aug.

The Poet’s Bookshelf Book Club and Workshop
Mexican American poet from Oakland Fortino Vazquez-Edmonds leads this monthly book club and workshop every fourth Thursday at Nomadic Bookshop, a new bookstore led by the folks behind indie publisher Nomadic Press that opened in January.
This month, the book club will read “Incendiary Art,” a collection of poems by Black poet, spoken-word performer, and playwright Patricia Smith.

Summer Renaissance evening market
The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce launched this seasonal event in June to bring more evening traffic to Oakland’s Chinatown and give Oakland residents a chance to explore the neighborhood’s wide variety of food and shops.
The event will kick off with a lion dance performance, and the market will include local artists selling their handmade creations, food vendors celebrating Asian heritage cuisines, a Mahjong Zone, and photo booths featuring fun Asian cultural accessories.
The Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Jenny and Cabbage, an Oakland photographer and host, who will lead hands-on activities throughout the market.

‘Gestural Expressions’ exhibit at SLATE Contemporary Gallery
Five women abstract artists — Maria Burtis, Amy Donaldson, Joanne Fox, Nicole Mueller, and Karen Silve — are part of this exhibit up now through Aug.

Mueller, a painter, will lead an artist-led walk through on Saturday, July 25, and a gallery reception is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.

Dance party and pop-up market in Dimond
Sinopia Wellness and Stepping Into Wellness, a spa and acupuncturist clinic, respectively, in Dimond are transforming their shared parking lot into a popup market and dance party.
You’ll get to enjoy ‘80s soul and hip-hop while browsing goodies from small vendors like handmade jewelry by Fizzycuffs and plants and home goods by Ramses Art Garden.
You’ll also be able to sip coffee by Mother Tongue; sample authentic Egyptian cuisine from the Royal Egyptian Cuisine food truck, or get a Tarot reading by Red Thread Intuitive.

Coming soon to The Town: Richie Rich with a live band at Yoshi’s
Oakland rapper Richie Rich has been part of the music industry for over three decades.
He collaborated with Tupac, E-40 and The Luniz, and most recently with the Bay Area artists LaRussell, Larry June, Young JR, and Jane Handcock.
In February, he sold out Yoshi’s and he’s back to do it all over again with five shows spread over three nights.
