Explosions rock Damascus as Macron visits Syria
Explosions rocked Syria's capital Damascus on Tuesday morning, wounding at least 18 people as French President Emmanuel Macron met with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa.
Macron had already entered the presidential palace to meet the Syrian president when the explosions occurred.
The French president's office said he was safe and that his visit to Syria was continuing.
At least two blasts were reported by Syrian media near the Four Seasons Hotel where the French president was staying.
Macron arrived in the country on Monday, making him the first major Western leader to visit the country since 2024.
Following the visit, he is set to travel to Ankara in Turkey for a NATO summit where the Syrian president is also expected to attend.
