Dwayne Johnson on bringing Maui to life

Animated version, while amazing, um not the same as real flesh and blood.

And also, you know, the character of Maui has always been inspired by my grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia.

But it wasn't until it's live-action I felt it onset.

I was like, "Oh man, this is my grandfather."

And I feel like, you know, with our elders who pass away and life laughs, sometimes they come back.

And sometimes we see them all the time.

Like I see my father-in-law all the time.

In versions of butterflies, by the way.

But I don't see my dad.

And a lot of times I see my grandfather.

And, you know, to play him, Maui, is like my grandfather and who and who inspired the character.

So, it's really special.
