Yeah, this upcoming heat wave does look pretty remarkable. Not necessarily because of its absolute peak temperatures, although they will be quite high, but I think probably more because it's going to be a very broad event from a spatial perspective. So, it's going to extend really almost all the way to the West Coast and all all the way east to the Ohio River Valley. So, that's a huge extent going, you know, thousands of miles across the country. It's also going to last a long time. It looks like it's starting to develop um
you know, within the next couple of days and will probably persist for at least a week or 10 days and in some cases, it might actually persist for much of the month of July. You know, we know that heat waves are becoming more intense, they're lasting longer, they're covering larger areas than they used to because of human-caused climate change. And so, when we see an event like this, we know there is at least a partial contribution by the long-term warming trend to the event the likelihood that the event uh
is is occurring in the first place or how intense it will become. >> Uh if you're at home and you can't get to cool place, uh fill your baths up with cool water. You know, there are tricks you can do at home to get you through the worst of it. And remember that nights can be just as dangerous as days. If you don't get heat relief at night, that's going to spill out into your daytime experience [music] and uh become extremely dangerous. So, please take it seriously. Heat is not to be played with. It's just as dangerous as a
tornado or hurricane. It can kill you just as easily. It's just in a quiet and different way and that can sneak up on people.
