The family of Nolan Wells is no closer to finding the cause and manner of the 18-year-old's death.
Nolan Wells was found dead two days after taking a boat trip with friends to an island off the coast of Mississippi on the 4th of July.
Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing the Wells family, read out the preliminary findings of an independent autopsy they commissioned at a press briefing in Chicago Wednesday.
The report revealed red discoloration was found in the soft tissue on the back of Wells's head, but there was no underlying skull fractures or lacerations to the skin around the area.
It was noted that the decomposition of the body, along with other limiting factors, had made it impossible to rule out if foul play contributed to or caused the death of Wells.
The Mississippi State Medical Examiner's office conducted its own autopsy, but has yet to release the results.
Jackson County Sheriff said that the friends who returned to the mainland without Wells believed he would get a ride back with someone else.
The friends have been cooperating with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
