USO remembers service members as July 4 celebrations kick off
Hey, good morning, guys. Yeah, I'm with Michael Linnington. He is with the USO.
It's a beautiful morning on the Hudson.
It's America's 250th birthday. The USO's doing beautiful work. What are you guys doing out here at the Intrepid Museum today?
>> We're celebrating America's 250th birthday. What better place to be than right here?
I mean, the USS Intrepid. I mean, this is where service members fought in World War II and the USO was founded right before World War II. And our mission has remained unchanged for 85 years. So, we're going to have a watch party here today with sailors, Marines, soldiers, all kinds of dignitaries. We're going to watch the flyover, the parade of ships, and we're going to celebrate the sacrifice of those who were in the past and today what our service members are doing all around the world and how the USO obviously supports them. 260 locations around the world.
>> Yeah, well, we wouldn't have gotten to 250 without the sacrifice of all of those different service members. Tell me about that and tell me about supporting them.
>> Yeah, freedom isn't free. I mean, I think today as we all celebrate the 4th of July and hot dogs and hamburgers around the grill, we got to remember we got tens of thousands of service members all around the world. Today, they're on ships standing watch. They're in remote bases in the dark. They're in the skies above the areas we were holding free. And we have to remember them today.
as we celebrate America's birthday, what an incredible day to celebrate, remember we got we got a lot of folks out there doing the nation's business and a lot of USO supporters out there helping them stay resilient. That's what it's about.
>> So, even on this day, there's still people out there protecting us.
>> Oh my god, Adam, thousands, tens of thousands, in fact. We're doing watch parties and celebrations all around the world, Middle East, Europe, Indo-Pacific, all across the United States.
Today's probably our biggest day of the year.
And and we're just proud to do what we do with the support of the American people and Fox, by the way. You guys have brought the FIFA Cup all over all over our bases around the world and that's been a huge morale boost, especially for the uh service members that are forward deployed.
>> Okay, really quick as I toss it back, one last thought on it's being America's 250th birthday. What's the message?
>> Message is uh happy birthday America and let's let's make the next 250 as great as the first 250.
>> I love that message. Happy birthday America. Michael, thank you for everything you do. Guys, I'm going to toss it back to all of you.
>> Thank you.
