JUST IN: Illegal immigrant CHARGED in Pennsylvania trooper's death
tragedy rocking Pennsylvania as an illegal immigrant truck driver has been charged in the death of a Pennsylvania state trooper.
Michael Pohara had just moved back in with his mother to help care for her while she is battling cancer.
The man being accused of causing this tragedy is Michael Bond, an illegal immigrant from Haiti who authorities say remained in the US despite being ordered to leave.
>> In total, for more than an hour and a half, a valiant attempt was made to save Trooper Michael Pohara's life and they were unsuccessful.
The man died a hero.
He was an outstanding trooper.
>> Former DHS Deputy Assistant Secretary Jonathan Fahey joins me now.
Jonathan,
the details here couldn't be more heartbreaking and they are preventable.
So, what is your reaction to this situation that we're learning about that took place in Pennsylvania?
>> You said it perfectly. It was preventable. Remember this this defendant or a prospective defendant came in here under the Biden Mayorkas open border scheme and sort of one of these sub schemes they had under this humanitarian parole where this this person was flown in here to come into the country when they were flying in 30,000 people a month and he was ordered deported in June of 2025, wasn't deported and again we have this tragedy and I say wasn't deported, you know, there's millions of people that need to be deported.
But, what this really highlights, I think there's been about 17 of these fatal crashes just last year involving illegal aliens driving CDLs and it really just shows how dangerous it is because we've heard the situations where people didn't speak English and other types of things.
Secretary Duffy is doing is so important where he's cracking down all these states with CDLs to people that don't speak English or ineligible to be in the United States.
>> Okay, so when it comes to the specifics in this case also Jonathan, DHS terminated this terminated this illegal immigrants parole in June of 2025 and ordered him to leave the country.
However, his commercial driver's license in Massachusetts was renewed in the year 2026 this year.
So, how can you be ordered to leave the country on one hand and then several months later get your license renewed to continue working here at a state level?
>> That's a good point. It's like he was ordered to leave which he should have left, but the state of I think it was Massachusetts again renewed this in like February of this year and it just shows
one there's not a lot of communication between you know some of these states, but also you know what secretary Duffy is doing again is cracking down on these states issuing licenses to people ineligible to be here, you know, because you know, they shouldn't only issue a license to somebody that's legally in the country and clearly at this point they were not doing that and not verifying this person was legally allowed to be here.
flowed in during the last administration, that was revoked.
yeah, there there needs to be a lot done to make sure anyone that's here illegally one is removed, but before that they don't have CDLs or anything else that could harm American citizens
and you know, this case a law enforcement officer. It's such a tragedy and again preventable as well.
>> Yeah, and you know, this is an officer as we said, he had just moved in back home to to care for his cancer-stricken mother. I mean, this is a a real tragedy that impacts real families.
and this illegal immigrant
came to this country through a humanitarian parole program under the Biden administration and you can't say with certainty if that parole program didn't exist would this have happened,
but you do have to wonder.
>> Yeah, you have to wonder and you know, if if they were controlling the border and didn't have the parole program, it it's hard to hard to imagine it actually would have happened because you look at President Trump, they're not releasing people in the country. They've ended these types of programs and you know,
CDLs are now, you know, going to American citizens and people that that should be here.
So, yeah, it does seem like it's preventable.
Obviously, you can't 100% know that, but you know, you
do think with these lack, particularly states issuing CDLs, really with a lot of lack of, you know, accountability or anything else for the people getting them.
It just seems like they were just giving them away and it's always sort of the certain states that had these pro-illegal immigrant policies that seem to be having the most lax policies on CDLs.
>> Yeah, and transportation Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says that he's on it after a string of these crashes took place across the country.
Uh, do you think that they are making headway here and what sort of roadblocks are in his way of fully alleviating this issue?
>> They are making a tremendous amount of headway. Uh, the main roadblocks he's facing are states that are pushing back against him. You know, I think he suspended funding to certain states as like uh,
