Judge blocks Trump policies that halted immigration process for many 93%

A federal judge in Rhode Island has struck down a series of Trump administration policies that were delaying the immigration process for hundreds of thousands of applicants.
CBS News immigration correspondent Camilo Montoya-Galvez has more on the ruling.

At the center of the court ruling is a series of policies enacted by the administration last year that have sharply restricted legal immigration.
One of the policies that completely halted all legal immigration applications filed by citizens of 39 countries listed on President Trump's so-called travel ban.
For months, most immigrants from countries like Cuba, Haiti, Iran, and Nigeria have not been able to get a work permits, asylum, permanent US residency, or American citizenship.

The Trump administration says it enacted that policy on national security grounds after an Afghan man who was granted US asylum allegedly shot two National Guard members in Washington, D.C.
But Chief Judge John McConnell of the US District Court in Rhode Island said the policies were driven instead by {quote} anti-immigrant sentiments, declaring them unlawful.
The Department of Homeland Security has rejected that finding.
