Trump's "Freedom 250" project funding faces scrutiny under proposed bill 86%

Trump's Freedom 250 project could face
new scrutiny as House Republicans look to crack down on charitable financial disclosures.
CBS News investigative reporter Gabe Kaminsky reports.
>> For years, Republicans have pursued investigations of left-leaning nonprofits, viewing them as tantamount to dark money arrangements.
Now, renewed efforts, this time in Congress and inside the Trump administration at the Treasury Department, are aiming to force charities to disclose more information about what are called fiscal sponsored projects.

What's notable as CBS News reports is that these same efforts could boomerang and force more disclosure onto President Trump himself.
Shortly after President Trump was elected, allies of the president incorporated a
a LLC called the Freedom 250 under a charity called the National Park Foundation.
And that LLC fundraised and led events to plan President Trump's America 250 July 4th celebrations.
That same LLC does not file its own tax returns.

foundation, which leads to a lack of information about money that goes through it.
This entity received tens of
millions of dollars from the federal government as well as money from corporations.
Democrats in Congress have intended to get more information from
Freedom 250, but to no avail.
But now, ironically, an effort from Republicans
to force more disclosure could result in Republicans having to reveal more about
such finances.
