It's official: After much public back-and-forth and infighting between the Platner campaign and Maine Democrat Party officials regarding alleged demands being made before he would agree to step aside in the race, Senate nominee Graham Platner has suspended campaign operations :
“We are suspending campaign operations,” Platner said. “This is incredibly difficult, because I know that some will think it’s admission of guilt, and most certainly is not. We’re not doing it because of the allegations, we’re doing it because of the structures that are being taken away from us by those talented people, and I also feel an immense amount of responsibility to everyone who has worked so hard to get us to where we are.”
He posted an 11-minute video explaining his decision, which he proclaimed did not stem from the rape allegation against him:

According to reports, the Maine Democrat Party will hold a nominating convention to choose his replacement:
Members of the Maine Democratic Party voted Wednesday night to hold a nominating convention to select a replacement for Platner. The party said it will provide more information on the convention in the coming days. Maine law stipulates that the party can replace him on the ballot by July 27.
Multiple candidates have already hopped into the race to replace him, though the process for nominating a new candidate remains largely unclear.
