The Lord of the Rings: Shadows of the Past
During a recent interview with The Direct , Elijah Wood specified Stephen Colbert’s Lord of the Rings prequel still hasn’t been officially greenlit yet.
Okay. Well, it hasn’t… We’re not there yet… But listen, I think the implication is that the stories that Stephen [Colbert] wants to tell, which are the six chapters that were not committed to film in Fellowship of the Ring , largely because they would have slowed the process of the journey down, because when he leaves Bag End and the Shire, and he has to get to Bree, if it had gone the meandering way that it does in the books, it just would have taken a long time to get to Bree, and… it would have killed momentum.
But I think the idea of telling the story of what happens in those six chapters is really exciting, and I think really exciting for fans, and I think what Stephen and his son have crafted and what they’re working through is really rich and interesting, and it certainly includes all those characters. So, a script has to be written, we have to go through a process and read it, and it has to get a green light and all those things, but certainly in theory, yeah. And I’m beyond thrilled that it’s Stephen and his son doing it. It’s in the best Tolkien scholarly hands.
Beef creator Lee Sung Jin discussed his “character first” approach to the upcoming X-Men movie in a recent interview with Deadline.
I grew up with X-Men and I think there’s no better set of characters that kind of exemplify feeling othered, feeling different from the world. We want to continue mining from that theme and it couldn’t be more relevant today in 2026.
They want to go back to character first, which is the type of writing that me and Joanna do best. We’re thinking about these characters and what makes them tick. What parts of them feel universally relatable, and leading with that first before we start thinking about plots and world stakes and all that.
I think audiences are always hungry for character first. That’s the thing that makes storytelling resonate, that you’re able to see and identify parts of yourself in these people on the big screen.
In another recent interview with Deadline , Robert Pattinson compared his Odyssey character, Antinous, to Taylor Lauter’s Jacob in Twilight .
I think they will be rooting for him. I keep comparing it—it’s kind of like Jacob in Twilight.
What The Odyssey is about—Penelope just can’t make her mind up between the two guys and I’m just trying to like help her make a decision. It’s like, ‘It’s fine. He’s dead, get over it.’
