The son of Swedish immigrants, Arvid grew up in Andersonville, Chicago’s Swedish neighborhood, where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
He later served as a medic in the U.S.
Army while stationed in Germany and remained proud of his country throughout his life; a true patriot.
Arvid was an entrepreneur and real estate investor.
Although he attempted to retire, retirement never quite suited his strong work ethic or enthusiasm for new projects.
He owned and operated Scandinavian Decorating and was involved in multiple real estate ventures.
He also had an endless interest in remodeling and improving homes.
Highly intelligent and well-read, Arvid had a lifelong desire for continued learning, especially in history and politics.
He also loved gardening and took particular pride in the beautifully landscaped family property he created.
Arvid had a one of a kind presence that filled a room.
His inquisitive nature and genuine interest in others made people feel welcome and included.
He loved to laugh, tell stories, and frequently break into song.
Arvid shared 56 years of marriage with his devoted and loving wife, Sue.
Together, they were true partners in life through travel, business, family, and a shared willingness to embrace new experiences.
They raised their family in Winnetka, Illinois, and spent meaningful time together at their home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
He was a loving father, grandfather, relative, and friend.
Family was the center of his life.
Arvid is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Karl (Sara) Dahlstrom and Renee (Jeff) Mulder; and his grandchildren, Leif, Hans, Anders, Erik, and Ella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arvid and Signe Dahlstrom, and his sister, Signe Brennan.
A private family service will be held in his memory at Rosehill Cemetery.

Arvid will be remembered for his service, his humor, his quest for knowledge, his love of life and family, and the relationships he built.
