A Hall County woman is dead after investigators say her former live-in boyfriend ambushed her in a convenience store parking lot and shot her multiple times Thursday evening.
Investigators are searching for the gunman who chased the running victim into the store to continue the gunfire before stealing her vehicle to escape.
What we know:
A stop at a local convenience store turned deadly Thursday evening when Tia Keith was shot and killed on Mountain View Road.
Hall County sheriff's investigators say Keith had stopped at the business to buy something.
When she came out, her former live-in boyfriend was waiting inside the passenger seat of her parked car.
The store owner, Farooq Khan, said his surveillance video captured the terror that followed.
Khan saw a woman run into the store with an armed man running in right behind her, shooting all the way.
Khan's nephew was working behind the counter.
He called 911 and took cover.
Keith was shot multiple times and died from her injuries, while the gunman left the scene in her car.
Law enforcement closed Mountain View Road in the area of Old Oakwood Road overnight.
The road has since reopened.
What they're saying:
"I have so many good memories of her," said Charlotte Sosebee, Keith's cousin.
Sosebee described Keith as a sweet, bright and kind person with a great sense of humor who owned her own hair salon in Gainesville.
Sosebee hopes people remember her cousin's heart.
The family revealed Keith was actively trying to exit an unhealthy relationship.
"I want to tell women out there who are in a relationship that's not healthy to get away," Sosebee said through tears.
What we don't know:
Sheriff's investigators say the shooter is not in custody.
Officials have not yet released the name or description of the suspect.
It remains unclear exactly how the man managed to enter Keith's vehicle undetected while she was inside the store.
The Source: The information in this story was gathered from FOX5 reporter Denise Dillon, who spoke with family members and authorities in Hall County, as well as convenience store owner Farooq Khan, who reviewed his business surveillance footage.
