A 74-year-old bicyclist was killed in a collision with a dump truck on Route 6 in Dartmouth Monday afternoon, officials said.
Shortly before noon, first responders were called to 832 State Road near the westbound side of Route 6, where they found a dump truck pulled over on the right side of the roadway, the office of Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a press release.
An investigation revealed the dump truck and a 74-year-old female bicyclist had collided, Quinn said.
Officials did not specify which direction either was traveling nor what led to the collision.
The bicyclist, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The truck driver remained on scene and was “cooperative with police,” Quinn noted.
Officials did not indicate if any charges or citations are expected.
Authorities said Massachusetts State Police and Dartmouth Police are investigating the crash.
The fatal collision comes less than a week after another bicyclist was killed in Massachusetts.
Last Thursday, 36-year-old Louisa Gag, a transportation planner for the city of Boston and a bicycle safety advocate, was struck and killed by a truck driver while riding on Tremont Street near Roxbury Crossing in Mission Hill.
Her death prompted renewed calls for improved bicycle and street safety in Boston.
Monday’s crash also follows another deadly incident on Route 6.
On Friday, Tristan Bedient, 34, of Acushnet, and Kate Aldrich, 51, of New Bedford were killed in a two-vehicle collision near the Westport-Dartmouth town line.
