Redford Township, Mich.  A man is dead after what police are calling a targeted shooting early Saturday morning in Redford Township.
The shooting happened before 3 a.m. near Glendale Street and Woodbine Street, according to Redford Township police.
Officers were called to the area for a report of a man shot inside a vehicle.
When officers arrived, they found the man wounded in a car.
Police assisted the man until the fire department arrived.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Police said in a news release that they believe the shooting was targeted.
No arrests have been made.
Neighbors said police investigated the scene for hours.
“I {saw} like six police cars and a vehicle sitting like right in the middle of the street and cars were surrounding it,” said Donald Beard, who lives on the street and was headed to work around the time of the shooting.
Remnants of yellow police tape hanging from multiple poles were still visible along the block Saturday afternoon, a stark reminder of what happened.
“It was shocking,” Beard said.
“It’s kind of heartbreaking for someone to lose their life on a corner.
You know, it’s crazy.”
Friends of the victim came to the street later in the day, visibly emotional as they tried to understand what led to the shooting.
They told Local 4 the man had a partner, who is struggling to cope with his death.
Other neighbors said they heard gunshots overnight and watched as police investigated the scene, describing the experience as surreal and unsettling.
Beard urged people to be cautious.
“Be aware of your surroundings and your neighborhood and make sure you’re watching your kids and everything because you never know what might happen,” he said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
