The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has arrested a man accused of gunning down his mother outside of a Metairie apartment complex Wednesday morning.
Nakee Collins, 21, of Shreveport, was booked with second-degree murder in the death, according to Sgt.
Brandon Veal, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office identified the victim as Gloria Collins, 47.
Gloria Collins lived in the apartments in the 6200 block of Riverside Drive where the shooting was reported, according to authorities.
Gloria Collins was taken to University Medical Center in New Orleans, but she died of her injuries.
Nakee Collins fled the scene in a vehicle.
But just minutes after the shooting, he was involved in a crash less than a mile away on Power Boulevard near the Interstate 10 exit ramp, according to Veal.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Sheriff's Office investigations bureau in Harvey.
The homicide is still under investigation as detectives work to determine a motive for the killing.
Sheriff's Office detectives arrested Kennedy George, 33, of Waggaman, and booked him with second-degree murder in Cooper's death.
Relatives said George had been stalking Cooper and seemed obsessed with her in the months before the shooting.
George was being held at the Gretna jail Wednesday on a $1.1 million bond.
Cooper's mother, Katisha Cooper, returned home from work and learned of the deadly shooting.
She was shocked that violence had once again struck so close to home.
Katisha Cooper knew the victim in Wednesday shooting.
"Everybody knew her.
She was the sweetest lady," Katisha Cooper said.
