Karmelo Anthony showed no emotion on Thursday as jurors listened to the distressing 911 call made in the moments after student-athlete Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed.
Anthony, now 19, is standing trial for Metcalf's murder and has maintained that he acted in self-defense during the deadly pocketknife attack at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, in April 2025.
The two teenagers, both 17 at the time, became embroiled in a dispute over seating at the Centennial High School athletics meet.
Prosecutors contend the stabbing was an unjustified 'sneak attack,' while the defense argues Anthony feared for his safety.
Emotional testimony began Thursday after the attorneys delivered competing opening statements in Collin County.
Several jurors were seen crying as the court was shown a photo of Metcalf's lifeless body at the football stadium.
The trial, which is expected to last about two weeks, has drawn significant political scrutiny, with racially charged demonstrations calling for Anthony to 'walk free.'
A panel of 12 jurors and six alternates was selected after roughly 600 prospective jurors were questioned during a selection process that began Monday.
No black jurors were seated on the final jury.

Frisco firefighter Neil Adams was the first witness to take the stand on Friday.
He responded to Austin Metcalf's stabbing on April 2, 2025.
'He was gray, there was no respiration.
He did not have a pulse,' Adams said.
The firefighter described administering life-saving efforts, including giving Metcalf blood.
'We continued monitoring and doing everything we could,' he said.
Adams then became emotional, tears welling up, when asked whether the case affected him.
In opening arguments on Thursday in Karmelo Anthony's murder trial, prosecutors said the baby-faced teen used a folding knife to stab Austin Metcalf at the time of their dispute.
Metcalf lifted up his shirt once he realized he had been knifed and exclaimed, 'I've been stabbed,' before tumbling down several rows of bleachers.
Prosecutors said his brother Hunter rushed to his aid as Anthony ran from the scene and later tried to blend into groups of kids who were fleeing the stadium.
'If you're scared and running away in self-defense, why toss the knife,' the prosecutor said.
'That knife wasn't used to protect him from harm.
That knife was used to harm another.
Find this man guilty of first-degree murder,' he continued, pointing at Anthony.
In opening arguments on Thursday, prosecutors said that Karmelo Anthony used a folding knife to stab Austin Metcalf and then tossed it before fleeing the scene.
As Metcalf's brother rushed to his aid, Anthony ran from the scene and later tried to blend into groups of kids who were fleeing the stadium, according to Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye.

Rob Starr, 41, the head track coach and football coach at Frisco Memorial High School, where Austin Metcalf attended, gave emotional testimony on Thursday.
He cried on the stand as he recounted seeing the star athlete after he had been stabbed by Karmelo Anthony.
'What I do see is Austin on the ground and his face is purple, and he has a big hole in his chest,' Starr said, adding that he ran back to the tent.
He said Metcalf's twin brother, Hunter, pointed at Anthony, and Starr went over to where he was.
'I asked [Anthony].
He said [Metcalf] put his hands on me.
[Anthony] was hysterical,' Starr said.
'I jumped the gate, and I went to Hunter, and he was hysterical.
I just knelt down, and I just prayed with him.'
Starr sobbed, 'I just knew Austin was gone.'
Several members of the public in the courtroom cried as the court saw a text message that Starr sent Austin one day after he died.
'Love you, man.
Sorry I didn't say that enough,' the text read.
Metcalf's father, Jeff, was seen wiping away tears as the court saw the exhibit.
The murder trial of Karmelo Anthony will resume at the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney, a Dallas suburb, today at 9am CT/10am ET.
He is accused of murdering Austin Metcalf, 17, in April 2025 after stabbing the athlete at a high school track meet at Kuykendall Stadium.
