Japan’s recorded number of births fell to a new low of 671,236 last year, marking the 10th straight year of decline, according to health ministry data released Wednesday. 
The drop was a 2.2% decrease from the number of births seen in 2024  a relatively modest percentage when compared to the approximately 5% year-on-year decline seen over the past several years. 
The health ministry data showed that while the number of births had fallen overall, births among women between the ages of 30 to 34 actually increased from 253,444 in 2024 to 255,665.
