FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich.  Heart of Worship Dance Studio has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support repairs and reopening efforts after a man wounded by gunfire ran into the studio.
According to a July 19, 2026, press release from the studio, the space was being rented for a private event on July 18, 2026, when the shooting occurred.
No Heart of Worship students or staff members were present, and no one affiliated with the studio was injured or involved in the incident.
“Our hearts remain with everyone affected by this tragic incident,” said Porcha Clemons, director of Heart of Worship Dance Studio.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Flint Township Police Department and all of the first responders for their swift response.
We have also been deeply moved by the prayers, love and concern our community has extended to us.”
ABC12 reported that when its news crew arrived at the studio, the windows had been shattered and what appeared to be bullet holes were visible in a wall and a desk.
According to a FaceBook post from the Flint Township Police Department, officers found an 18-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene and immediately began providing aid before the victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was an isolated, targeted incident involving individuals who are known to each other.
Police also stated that businesses shown in news coverage of the shooting were not the intended targets and should not be associated with the actions of those responsible.
Police confirmed that no shots were fired inside the mall.
Representatives from Heart of Worship said the studios focus is on preparing to once again welcome children and families into a safe, positive environment.
“Many of you have asked how you can help and have expressed a desire to donate, so we created a GoFundMe,” Clemons said.
“If you feel led to donate or simply share the fundraiser, we would be incredibly grateful.
Every prayer, share and contribution brings us one step closer to reopening our doors for our dancers.”
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is encouraged to contact the Flint Township Police Department at 810-600-3250.
