Trump to Supreme Court: Reconsider the 'Absolutely Insane Decision' in the Birthright Citizenship Case - RedState

You’d think Donald Trump would have enough on his plate, attending the NATO summit in Turkey and ordering a major surge in military strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran, which continues to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

But he also found the time Wednesday to say that he’s going to ask the Supreme Court to do something exceedingly rare: revisit a settled case, in this instance, the birthright citizenship decision handed down at the end of June. The Court, in Trump v. Barbara , rejected Trump’s executive order 6-3 , with a five-justice majority holding that the 14th Amendment protects birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to parents who are unlawfully or temporarily present.

Trump was infuriated, as were dissenting justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, but the president isn't giving up without a fight:

The president argued in his TruthSocial post that billboards are popping up for birth tourism facilities and that the SCOTUS decision allows our country to be victim to one giant scam:

Signs and Billboards are being put up all over our Southern Border, and Mexico, advertising BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP, with “Deliveries starting at $4000.” Likewise, similar signs going up all over our Country. Billions of Dollars will be illegally made by this SCAM, with Citizenship going to anyone willing to pay. It will be, by far, the number one way of becoming a citizen, and then the entire family will be allowed to follow. Not sustainable. NOBODY SAW THIS COMING!!! AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP IS NOT FOR SALE!

Trump wants the justices to act, now .

In fact, that is a crime, and therefore, the Supreme Court’s ruling is wrong. I will be asking for a Rehearing by the United States Supreme Court, IMMEDIATELY. This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Just because Trump is asking for reconsideration is no guarantee that the Court will actually grant the request. In fact, it’s a long shot :

Supreme Court rehearings are exceedingly rare. Under the court's Rule 44 , a petition for rehearing generally must be filed within 25 days of the judgment and is intended to address exceptional circumstances, including significant legal or factual issues the court might have overlooked. The court grants few such petitions, and a rehearing cannot be ordered unless a justice who joined the majority supports it.

American citizenship is not something you can just buy like jewelry:

It’s a hot-button issue because an unknown number of foreigners from places like Russia and China are known to make elaborate plans to be in this country when their kids are born. The Supreme Court may have ruled that birthright citizenship is protected by the Constitution (due to the 14 th Amendment), but to many, it just seems like legalized fraud against our country.

I’m not holding my breath, but the Court should reconsider its flawed ruling .
