A Georgia man accused scamming a West Hartford business out of $50,000 while posing as a bank employee was extradited to Connecticut and charged with multiple fraud offenses.
On June 18, 2025, the West Hartford Police Department‘s Detective Division received a complaint of fraudulent activity involving a West Hartford business’ bank account, according to Capt.
Aaron Vafiades.
The complainant alleged that they received a scam phone call from an individual pretending to be a fraud manager for Webster Bank, Vafiades said.
During the alleged scam, the business reported losing $50,000.
After a yearlong investigation, the suspect was identified as Junior Astre, 41, of Loganville, Georgia.
An extraditable arrest warrant was obtained on charges of first-degree identity theft, second-degree money laundering, first-degree larceny, criminal impersonation and second-degree telephone fraud.
West Hartford detectives took custody of Astre at the Gwinnett County Jail in Georgia on Wednesday and
extradited him to Connecticut.
Astre was held on a $100,000 court-set bond pending his arraignment in Hartford on Thursday.
