An Abington mother is being held on $100,000 cash bail after pleading not guilty Friday to bruising her newborn daughter’s face and causing her brain to bleed, the Plymouth district attorney’s office said.
Jillian Timmons, 34, is being held on two felony charges of assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury and one misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment of a child.
She was arraigned in Brockton District Court.
Timmons’s 2-month-old daughter is being treated in the neonatal intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital in Boston and “may never walk, speak, feed or care for themself,” according to a statement from the district attorney’s office.
When Timmons took her baby girl to South Shore Hospital for treatment on July 17, the infant’s core temperature was 93 degrees, and she had bruises on both sides of her face, prosecutors said.
The severely injured infant was was medflighted to Children’s Hospital.
A mandated reporter who worked at South Shore Hospital alerted authorities about “the suspected physical abuse of Timmons’ daughter,” Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J.
Cruz said.
“It has been determined that the infant suffered serious brain bleeds that were several days old, and consistent with physical abuse and blunt force trauma,” Cruz said.
After an investigation of more than two weeks, Timmons was arrested on a warrant Thursday afternoon.
If she makes bail, Timmons must stay away and have no contact with the baby or the baby’s father, Cruz’s office said.
Massachusetts State Police obtained a search warrant and seized an Apple iPad, Apple laptop, and a journal that Timmons kept of the infant from the Abington apartment where Timmons was living, prosecutors said.
Timmons’s next court date is scheduled for Aug.
