Gov.
Gavin Newsom released a slew of tax documents Friday, revealing that he and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, earned $1.7 million to $2 million per year between 2022 and 2024, according to media reports.
The disclosures — which cover four years’ worth of tax returns — come as Newsom is likely to mount a 2028 presidential campaign and the Department of Justice has reportedly launched an investigation against the couple.
Republican critics of Newsom have accused him of using his office for personal enrichment, painting California as a hotbed of fraud and corruption.
Friday’s tax disclosure is meant to ward off these accusations.
Newsom faced media criticism in 2024 for pledging to release his tax returns but failing to do so.
Much of Newsom’s earnings in 2024 — more than $1 million — came from investments.
The governor’s salary that year was $192,000, and his wife’s income amounted to $148,000.
Other income came from Newsom’s businesses, held in a blind trust, and from Siebel Newsom’s production firm.
“Governor Newsom is the first Governor in California history to publicly release tax returns covering his tenure in office,” spokesperson Izzy Gardon wrote in a statement.
“That’s on top of placing his assets in a blind trust and signing a day-one executive order barring state agencies from doing business with his businesses.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is openly cashing in on the presidency — cutting business deals from the Oval Office and enriching himself and his family.
The contrast is glaring, and the double standard is absurd.”
The disclosures, which covered 2021 to 2024, showed that Newsom earned $1 million in 2021 following a real estate transaction.
The records are the first time the governor has made his taxes public since 2022.
