HALTOM CITY – Judy Mae Smith Johnson, born in Fort Worth, Texas, on Aug. 28, 1946, passed away on July 28, 2026.
She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and friend.
Her greatest joy in life was her family and she always put her daughters and granddaughters above anything else.
Judy began her career as a pioneer in the information technology field with TTI before following her passion for education.
Later in life, she earned her teaching degree from Texas Woman’s University and spent the remainder of her career teaching students in Northwest ISD.
She especially loved teaching Gifted and Talented classes, English Language Arts, and Social Studies.
A gifted seamstress, Judy generously shared her talents by sewing for several band and choir programs as well as the Texas Girls Choir.
Whether in the classroom or behind a sewing machine, she found joy in helping others.
She also found joy in cherry Ludens cough drops and cokes with extra ice.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita Mae Smith and Knox Redell Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Trudi Barnett and Amy Johnson; her granddaughters, Maggie Barnett and Lilly Barnett; her sister, Kay Wallace; her nieces and nephews, Emilee Durrett, BJ Wallace, Edward Wallace, and Sharee Farmer; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Judy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, from 6 – 7 p.m. at Greenwood Funeral Home in Memorial Suite B, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Memorial Park, 3100 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, Texas 76107.
