A rideshare passenger was seriously injured on Interstate 93 in Quincy Sunday night when he ran into traffic and was struck by a vehicle, State Police said. 
Shortly after 9 p.m., the rideshare driver called 911 and reported that their passenger was acting erratically, State Police said in a statement. 
The trooper located the vehicle, which had pulled over near the Braintree split, and spoke with the passenger, police said. 
The trooper started a conversation with the passenger, but the man suddenly ran away, according to dispatch recordings on Broadcastify. 
“He ran away. 
I ran after him. 
Then he stopped. 
I tried to talk to him,” the trooper told dispatchers. 
The trooper reported approaching the man a second time. 
“He ran into traffic,’' the trooper said. 
The person was struck by a vehicle and became trapped underneath it, according to dispatch transmissions. 
Troopers and Quincy firefighters extricated the man, who was rushed to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries. 
The incident is under investigation by State Police and Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. 
Morrissey’s office.
